Opera Vs Opera GX. When should you change to the gaming browser

Opera is one of most Chromium-based browsers. Opera is unique because of its many features including built-in content blocker, integrated social media, and free VPN support. Opera GX was also released by the developers.

But what does Opera GX do? Does it improve your PC’s gaming performance? Is it substantially different from the regular Opera as to warrant a switchover?

Opera GX and Its Differences

Let’s clear some misconceptions about Opera GX before we go any further. Opera GX does not replace the existing Opera browser. It uses Opera’s core to offer many games-oriented features. Opera GX allows you to access all of Opera’s features.

Opera GX allows you to access all the opera’s best features

Opera GX is not a gaming browser. You won’t see a significant improvement in your video gaming experience, and it will not make you play web-based games more quickly. Similar to Opera, it is another browser. You can determine the resources that it has available at any time.

The goal of the browser is to be less performance-hogging if it’s preferred that your browser remains open during gaming.

Opera GX has a completely different aesthetic, despite being based upon Opera. Opera GX looks much more like a game console than a browser. It features a dark theme with red icons, border lines and borders, as well as matching wallpaper.

Open the Easy Setup menu (same as in Opera), and you can immediately go about changing the default color to any other in the RGB spectrum. Also present are several additional wallpapers specific to Opera GX, and you can also choose to

import your own images

Razer Chroma accessories can also be attached to your gaming computer. This allows them to reflect color changes and makes it look nice.

By default, Opera GX lands you in a dedicated tab called ‘GX Corner,’ which features a curated list of upcoming games, gaming deals, and news feed for any platform of your choice (Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.).

You will still have your Speed Dial tabs with the News feed enabled by default.

The extremely useful Opera sidebar also makes a return in Opera GX. By default, it carries fewer options this time around, but with a couple of interesting additions (GX Control and Twitch), which we will go over next.

You can still access all missing features in Opera by clicking the right-click at the side-bar (My Flow and Personal News), You will then be able to activate the feature by simply clicking “Activate”

Gaming Features

Opera GX provides you the ability to check how much RAM and processor power are available to your browser. If you use Opera GX to play video games, then the integrated system resources controls can make a big difference.

You can click the GX Control icon on the side-bar to reveal a panel with two options: RAM Limiter (or CPU Limiter). Opera GX’s RAM limiter lets you restrict the number of resources Opera GX is able to use.

For example, if your PC has 8GB of system memory, you can restrict Opera GX to 2GB, 4GB, or 6GB, leaving the rest for use by the operating system and whatever video game that you plan to run on it next.

The CPU Limiter allows you to limit how much processor power the browser can access at any time. The slider allows you to set CPU limits for 25%, 50%, or 75%.

While Windows is quite adept at allocating resources normally, switching to Opera GX and making use of these controls should work out fine if your PC suffers from adverse gaming performance when keeping the regular Opera (or any other browser) running in the background.

Twitch integration, another game-oriented addition to Opera GX, is also available. It is easy to activate via the side-bar. Sign in to Twitch and receive notifications when streamers go live. To view the live stream, click on the profile link in the sidebar.

That’s it!

Opera GX has the RGB aesthetics but is not compatible with Twitch, GX Control or Game Center. The Settings panel contains all the features found in Opera regular Opera. All options are available, including private browsing and free VPN.

Opera GX also supports data syncing. Simply sign in with your Opera Account, and you can easily get your browsing history, bookmarks, and passwords synced between devices.

That means migrating from Opera to Opera GX is super-easy since you can bring over all your data without breaking a sweat.

Opera GX: Is it worth upgrading? Opera GX is worth a look if you’re really into gaming. The stunning aesthetics can entice any player. The circumstances will determine if it is able to improve your gaming experience over Opera.

Opera GX will not limit the number of tabs you open in browsers. However, if there are many tabs open in the background then limiting resources will impact gaming performance. However, it doesn’t matter if there is a lot of RAM and high-end CPU to start with.

Opera GX can be a great alternative to the regular Opera. Opera GX will allow you to access all regular Opera features so you won’t miss anything.
